Our company was just named
the winner of
Concrete Decor Magazine's first annual Concrete
Restoration Contest. Concrete Decor is the
decorative concrete industry's preeminent trade
publication, and we are proud to be featured in
their December/January, World of Concrete 2007
edition with our winning project. The contest
was divided into Interior and Exterior Projects,
with a first and second place being awarded in each
category. Criteria used to judge the contest
included: challenges and obstacles facing the
rehabilitation project; creativity and look of the
final project; and the way the final project
complemented or contrasted with its surroundings.
We were awarded First Place, Interior Project. |
Our award-winning project was an interior pool patio in
Crete, Illinois, a far south suburb of Chicago.
In October 2005, we were called to look at and
assess the failed installation of a previous stamped
overlay on this pool patio. When finally we
were awarded and began the project in April 2006, it
involved the complete tear-out of this existing
overlay, down to bare concrete, and the installation
of a brand new stamped overlay. The demolition
work was tedious, involving a variety of types of
heavy equipment, but the new design work was
rewarding, and the owners were enjoyable to work
for. We are grateful to Concrete Decor for
their recognition of our work.
You can read about this project online
here. (Password Login is: DECOR) or on pp. 53-55
of the December/January 2007 print edition of
Concrete Decor. |

America, one of the greatest rock and roll bands of
all time, producers of such memorable hits as Horse
With No Name, Ventura Highway, Tin Man, and Lonely
People, has just released a new double album, their
first major work in almost 10 years. "Here and
Now" contains 12 brand new songs, as well as 12 more
from their Greatest Hits album. America will
make an appearance on the Late Show with David
Letterman on Monday, January 15th, 2007, before
starting a new tour which begins with several U.S.
cities, then moves on to England, Italy, and
Australia for most of March and April, and finally
returns to the U.S. and Canada for the remainder of
2007. |

Anyone who has seen America in concert knows that
they provide one of the most enjoyable music-going
experiences imaginable. Their music, based on
an "honest, from the heart lyrical content, woven
around keyboards, acoustic guitar & three part
harmony", has a multi-generational appeal that has
kept them a staple of American air waves since they
won the Grammy for best new artist of 1972.
They appear in Chicago on June 30th at the Charter
One Pavilion . You can keep track of their tour
dates and listen to song excerpts
here. You can purchase their new album
here. America's uplifting music often
provides inspiration to our decorative efforts
during long, tedious days on those hard concrete
slabs!
