Premier Veneers began as a painting contracting company in Romeo, Michigan, in 1999.  In its 2nd year, during normal house painting projects, the company began to receive inquiries from customers about what could be done with basement concrete.  Premier Veneers did the research, and tackled a few projects.  On one particular project, Premier Veneers chemically stripped gooey, black "cutback" tile adhesive from the floor, acid-stained the concrete, and coated it with clear sealer. That project turned out to be a huge success. The customer was ecstatic with their new floor, and the project won an honorable mention, national award from American Painting Contractor Magazine, for decorative finishes.

Shortly thereafter, Premier Veneers decided to focus solely on decorative finishes for concrete.  The company grew its skills and expertise in decorative concrete through memberships in trade associations, like the Painting & Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA), the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), and the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC).  Premier Veneers became certified in the use of various different companies’ decorative concrete products, and expanded its service offerings to related decorative concrete trades and disciplines, such as scoring & engraving, cement overlays, concrete moisture testing, and faux finishing.

This newfound focus, and Premier Veneers’ membership in the ASCC, led to a second, large, commercial acid-stained concrete project for an Irish pub restaurant in Farmington Hills.  That project also won a national award, from a different magazine, and the company’s decorative concrete business took off from there.  Over the past 20 years, Premier Veneers has installed a variety of projects for residential, and commercial customers in the Detroit and Chicago areas, ranging from basement, kitchen, and living room floors, to garages, patios, porches, retaining walls, and pool decks, to flooring in restaurants, retail stores, showrooms, office spaces, churches, and warehouses.

Today, Premier Veneers continues to install beautiful, residential and commercial, decorative concrete flooring that is recognized nationally, and wins awards.  More recently, the company received a second place finish from the ASCC Decorative Concrete Council, in 2016, for an outdoor pool deck, and a first place finish from the Corrosion Society, NACE International, in March 2017, for a commercial office building acid-stained concrete floor.  The way Premier Veneers is able to achieve all of these awards is by working closely with customers on design detail at the outset of projects, and by ensuring the customers are thoroughly satisfied with all aesthetics at the conclusion of projects.

Another reason Premier Veneers consistently produces top-quality work is that owner, Jeff Donius, is involved with all customers and project installations.  Jeff has graduate degrees in Government Administration and International Relations, from the University of Pennsylvania, taking a variety of courses at the Wharton School of Business.  Jeff worked for seven years as an international trade negotiator with the International Trade Administration (ITA), of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), in the Executive Office of the President (EOP), in Washington, DC, after entering  the U.S. federal government as a Presidential Management Intern/Fellow (PMI/PMF) in 1989.  His experience in leading U.S. trade delegations overseas, and resolving trade complaints for U.S. business, in Korea, helps give the company an outstanding sense of tact, diplomacy and fairness in business.

Also, unlike most companies doing work in this field, Premier Veneers focuses exclusively on decorative concrete.  It no longer offers custom painting, and does not pour traditional, "full-depth" concrete.  Premier Veneers does perform many additional, related services that other companies do not, however, including the resurfacing of existing concrete, moisture testing, and joint filling.  Premier Veneers is one of the few contractors, anywhere, with a certification in decorative concrete, nationally, and from the State of Michigan, the only state currently with such a program.  Company owner, Jeff Donius, was appointed, on May 10th, 2018, by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, for a two-year term, to the Residential Builders and Maintenance & Alteration Contractors Board, in recognition of his experience in the construction industry, and expertise in concrete, and painting & decorating. Jeff is no longer on that board.
